Build a 10-minute daily English habit

· myedu.lk team

Learning a language is a lot like exercise: short, regular practice usually works better than one long session once a week. Ten focused minutes a day is small enough to fit into a busy day — and it adds up.

Pick a fixed time

Tie your practice to something you already do every day:

  • on the bus or train to work or school
  • with your morning cup of tea
  • after dinner, before you open social media

When English has a fixed place in your day, you do not need to find new motivation every time you start.

Use a simple 10-minute plan

  1. 2 minutes — review. Look back at yesterday's new words or the summary of your last lesson.
  2. 6 minutes — learn something new. One short lesson, one grammar point or one dialogue.
  3. 2 minutes — use it. Say three sentences out loud, or write them down, using what you just learned.

The last step matters most. Using new language — even alone, even quietly — helps you remember it.

Keep a small notebook

Write each new word with a complete example sentence:

I usually catch the 7.30 bus to Colombo.

A sentence shows how a word is really used, which is far more useful than a translation on its own.

Bring English into your day

  • Change your phone's language to English for a week.
  • Read the English headlines of the morning newspaper.
  • Describe what you are doing in your head: "I'm making tea. The water is boiling."

Missed a day? Just continue

Everyone misses days. What matters is coming back the next day. On myedu.lk, your streak counts the days on which you actually learn, and your dashboard always shows your next lesson, so it is easy to pick up where you stopped.
